2023 was an exciting year in our land of comics! We had some dynamic new additions that joined the Kingdom, while the returning and vintage comics our readers have all come to know and love continue to flourish with another year under their belts. Take a stroll down memory lane with us as we look back on our 2023 wrapped at Comics Kingdom! The past year gifted us a handful of newcomers, including “Alice” by Andrea E. Beizer; “Break of Day” by Nate Fakes; “Comiclicious” by Olivera Vukovic; “Dumplings” by Victor Van Acker; “God’s Hands” by KC Green; “Insanity Streak” by Tony Lopes; “Never Been Deader” by Tommy Devoid; and “Willy Black” by Guillermo Saldana. Each of these clever cartoons have added a special chuckle to our days! A Preview of “Insanity Streak,” Arriving on Oct. 2

The punchline is nearer than ever! As the newest digital comic to enter the Comics Kingdom family, Tony Lopes’ witty comic strip Insanity Streak supplies us with much-needed comedic relief. Labeled as a comic strip “with an obsessive desire for the absurd,” the jokes are limitless in Insanity Streak because the strip is unbound by a storyline, characters, or locations. The world is genuinely Lopes’ oyster. Insanity Streak’s crisp and colorful cartoon style excels in how it envelops readers and welcomes them through its cozy familiarity. Scenes occur in various clever settings, from the dry desert to the emptiness of space, giving Lopes the creative avenue to switch up the subject matter from strip to strip. “I enjoy the freedom of taking the readers anywhere,” Lopes explained. Lopes grew up in Sydney, Australia, and currently lives there with his wife, Lori, and two sons. He divides his time between being a family man and working to make people laugh through his art. So, mark your calendars on Oct. 2 for the launch of Insanity Streak on Comics Kingdom. We always look forward to strips that can help us escape from […]

New Comics Launch on Comics Kingdom: Never Been Deader, Dumplings and Insanity Streak

The Comics Kingdom community continues to grow and thrive! Our latest additions include two daily comic strips, Never Been Deader by Tommy Devoid and Dumplings by Victor Van Acker, while a third daily comic — Insanity Streak by Tony Lopes — launches on Oct. 2! Tommy Devoid’s Never Been Deader, a comic about a skeleton with a grating office job, made its debut back in August and has since kept the dark humor steadily flowing. Set in the gray offices of Afterlife Industries, Lifeless Carl takes us through his normal day-to-day in the Department of Intake as he grapples with pesky office grievances like being underpaid, commuting home in traffic and feeling burned-out. “Never Been Deader” — Aug. 29, 2023 Another comic that recently released on Comics Kingdom in August was “Dumplings” by Victor Van Acker. “Dumplings” features the amusing adventures of Benny the dog and Mac the cat — two best pals against a world that doesn’t believe in cats and dogs being friends. While Benny and Mac’s antics often get them into tight pinches, Benny’s owner, Dani, and her best friend, Franny, get into shenanigans of their own. “Dumplings” — Sept. 17, 2023 […]

    Australian Cartoon Conference 2010

The last photo is from the ACA web site and you can see more here. It was fantastic to meet more great cartoonists this year, including the multi-talented and charming Michael Jantze, who wasn’t able to come last year due to a bit of a plane ticket snafu… I didn’t take my camera to the Stanleys, but Table 4 was the best crowd. David Pope got the award for Cartoonist of the Year and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer chap. We were surrounded by talented Melbourne cartonists – Oslo Davis, Andrew Weldon (who is resisting the siren call of the internet), Matt Golding, Leigh Hobbs and Judy Horacek (who has scandalously never been nominated, but whose book is getting rave reviews). I was chuffed to get nominated again in the comic strip category, even though I lost out to my nemesis, Tony Lopes (please, Tony – enter Insanity Streak in the single panel division and give me a chance!).  At the end of the evening, we were hand-drawing business cards to give to each other. Considering that a fair few of us were tired and emotional, I’m surprised […]
