Lost in Space, Found in Comedy: The Story of Goomer
This week on Inside the Kingdom, we blast off with legendary cartoonist Ricardo Martínez, co-creator of Goomer, the beloved sci-fi strip that’s equal parts outer-space absurdity and all-too-human comedy. If you’ve ever wondered how a freeloading Earthling became one of Europe’s most iconic comic-strip exports—or what makes Goomer both timeless and weirdly relatable—this episode’s for you. Meet Goomer: Our Shameless Space Traveler As Ricardo told host Alex Garcia, Goomer was born from the imaginations of two lifelong friends. He and co-creator Nacho Moreno met as kids in Madrid and bonded over comics like B.C., Wizard of Id, and Crock. The result was Goomer—a hilariously flawed human trying (and often failing) to survive among aliens who are just as dysfunctional as we are. “Goomer is our Mr. Hyde,” Ricardo laughs. “He’s our shameless side—the part of us that goes all in on bad decisions.” The Art of the Absurd Ricardo’s art brims with detail—every frame a little treasure hunt of Easter eggs […]
Goomer Returns to North America Exclusively @ Comics Kingdom!
We are thrilled to announce the return of Goomer, the beloved comic strip created by Ricardo Martínez and Nacho Moreno, to North America exclusively on Comics Kingdom starting June 2nd, 2024. Goomer will once again bring its unique brand of humor and adventure to American audiences by publishing three times a week on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. But all that’s nothing compared to the greatest danger of them all: an Earthling by the name of Goomer.** Characters GoomerShort, chubby, and balding, he’s a disaster waiting to happen as an astronaut. He was lost when he landed, saw a chance to make a buck, and stayed. What isn’t entirely clear is why he had to travel so far just to live off of a female. ElmaThis comely alien is Goomer’s girlfriend, although there are different schools of thought. (Mainly Elma’s and Goomer’s) OpHe’s Goomer’s best friend and the guy who pays all of Goomer’s bills when Elma’s […]
