If you’re new to Comiclicious, meet its creator, Olivera Vukovic. She’s a physical chemist who somehow also makes one of the quirkiest, most endearing comics on Comics Kingdom.

Olivera describes Comiclicious as “basically just life.” Any thought that drifts through her head might end up as a strip. Sometimes that means a beaker or a bit of science sneaks in, but the jokes never get bogged down in complicated concepts. At the heart of the strip are three voices—Gemmie the wonderer, Liv the practical one, and Death (a.k.a. Joe), the rational realist. Together they create a tone that’s absurd, gentle, sometimes dark, and always relatable.

A lot of her best work comes straight out of real life. She shared one strip on the show that started with an awkward crosswalk encounter she happened to witness from the passenger seat of a car. It was so human, so uncomfortable, that it just had to be captured in a panel. Longtime readers will also know Eternal Love, which has been such a fan favorite it now lives as a print in our shop.

Olivera posts three times a week—on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. She starts her day by journaling ideas, then moves on to sketching on her iPad using Procreate. A strip takes about six hours start to finish, with faces flowing easily while straight lines remain her nemesis.

What I love is how she never felt she had to choose between being a scientist and an artist. Both sides feed each other, and once she stopped worrying about what others thought, the mix just worked. Looking ahead, she’s planning more adventures with Gemmie, Liv, and Joe, along with some folkloric and paranormal influences she grew up with—shipwrecks, portals, spirals. And when I floated the idea of crossovers with other Comics Kingdom characters, she was all in: “They could totally meet.”
