Ask a Cartoonist: Graduation!

by Countess Tea

We’re fast approaching graduation season!  So while students across the country are donning their caps and gowns, I decided to ask our cartoonists for their best advice to pass along to graduates!

–John Rose, Barney Google and Snuffy Smith

Stay in school. No, really…STAY IN SCHOOL!  It’s brutal out here.  –David Hitch, Editorial Cartoonist

 –Ron Ferdinand, Dennis the Menace

“Do what you love and put your heart into it.” I loved my degree (biochemistry), but then spent 7 years in a job I hated, when all I really wanted to be was a cartoonist. –Alex Hallatt, Arctic Circle

Whenever I think of graduation, my mind goes back to high school and  that dream –Bill Griffith, Zippy the Pinhead

Dethany would start off with her personal motto: “Life is a brief, fleeting state of being, that’s too short to waste on work that’s not your best.”  She’d conclude by saying “We all know where we’re going, so just enjoy the ride.”  She’s only given her speech once, to the assembled graduates of Eternal Havens Mortuary School. — Bill Holbrook, On the Fastrack and Safe Havens

Mary writes as Ask Wendy and reminds a reader that one person can make a difference.  There’s goodness all around us.  And within us.  –Karen Moy, Mary Worth
