Pandemic Zoom Cartoonists Convention

by Jeff

So this weekend was when American and Canadian editorial cartoonists were supposed to be looking at each other through the bottom of a glass in Toronto. But with the world stuck at home, the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists held a Zoom Convention on Friday night. As always, I’m an annoying shutterbug at these things, and took a few shots before figuring out the screengrab thing. With 50+ cartoonists showing up in little rectangles and drinks at hand, organizers randomly sent us to “bars” named for real-life bars we would have been hopping had we actually been in Toronto. We’d hang out in one bar for 10 minutes, then pop back to the main room, before being sent to the next bar. It was wonderful seeing everyone’s healthy, unmasked faces, real hair color, and untamed manes.

(Full disclosure:  this was not the first time I was found at a cartoonists convention not wearing pants.)

Huge thanks to host Wes Tyrell and JP Trostle for setting up a great cocktail party.

Bar number one…

Bar number four…

Bar numberrrr… as you can see, things started getting a little blurry…
