Happy Birthday to Mutts!
On this day in 1994, a little dog named Earl and a clever cat named Mooch found their forever home in the funny pages and in our hearts when Mutts debuted!
Over the years, Mutts has celebrated the special love between humans and animals, the friendship and bonds animals share, and our responsibility toward our animal friends and the world we live in, always with humor, kindness, and beautiful comic art. So today, we celebrate Mutts!
Here’s the first week of strips from September, 1994!
Over the years, Patrick McDonnell has helped us see the world through a pet’s eyes, whether it’s the simple love of Mooch and his little pink sock or the inspiring Shelter Stories that tell us the tales of pets waiting to be adopted into their forever homes. And he’s supported those stories with his efforts off the page, too– helping out at real-life animal shelters and pet adoption events, and giving a percentage of proceeds from Mutts merchandise to The Humane Society of the United States Animal Rescue Team.
We wish Earl, Mooch, Ozzie, Millie, Frank, Shtinky Puddin’, Noodles, Sid the Goldfish, Butchie, and the whole Mutts gang the happiesht of birthdays!
