Hi and Lois Sunday page digital proof, April 2, 2006.
In this episode, we had fun imagining the early love life of Hi and Lois, back when they first started dating.
I was a teenager in the 1960s, before cell phones, dating apps and social media. The guy would usually call his prospective partner on the phone and ask her out. I always got nervous not knowing what the answer would be. What to wear was always a challenge for the girls. Blue jeans and a sweater? A dress with fancy shoes? My father had an antique MG sports car that I never got to drive. Instead I took the family station wagon. Typical destinations were movie theaters, parties, dances or restaurants. We would talk over dinner, go for a romantic stroll and end the date with a good night kiss. I remember these times fondly.
We decided to end this nostalgic strip on a positive note. Hi and Lois have agreed to go out on a rare “date.” They’ll need to find a babysitter first.
Check back here next week for more classics from the collection.
