Timeline – 2004 Part 2

by Brian Walker, Greg Walker and Chance Browne

Hi and Lois Sunday page digital proof, September 26, 2004.

Religion is a subject that has to be treated very carefully in a comic strip.  Our readers come from many different backgrounds and we don’t want to offend anyone by making light of their beliefs.

Many people go to church on Sundays, so it seems like the Flagstons should as well, at least occasionally.  In the episode above, all the family members are participating in the service.

I am affiliated with the Talmadge Hill Community Church in Darien, Connecticut. It’s a small, one-room country church.  People from all religious persuasions are welcome to worship there.  My wife sings in the choir and we host once a year, which involves reading the scripture and passing the collection basket.  Here is a picture of the building, which looks similar to the one in the drop panel above.

Below is a recent Sunday page that shows the Flagstons in church again, illustrated by artist Eric Reaves.  See if you can identify all of the parishioners.  Hint:  The couple in the front pew is Eric and his wife Lori.

Next week we will feature another classic Sunday page from 2004 in our Timeline series, so be sure to check back.
