On January 22, 2016, we started a four-part series documenting the evolution of Otto.

In the beginning, Sarge’s dog walked on all fours and communicated with woofs, barks and growls.

Here is his first appearance in the strip on July 17, 1956.

As the years went on, he got a little cuter. This is what he looked like in 1962.

Finally, on September 16, 1969, Otto got his own desk and uniform.

The Sunday page above was published three months later. It sums up how Sarge progressively spoiled his beloved dog. He treats Otto much better than Beetle.
