Hi and Lois Sunday page color proof, July 5, 1964.
Previously in the Timeline series, we discussed Trixie’s favorite stuffed companion, often referred to as “Mr. Ted.” Here is the link to that post: http://hiandlois.com/2017/03/03/timeline-1961-part-3/
In this episode Trixie reviews her past adventures with teddy, but since she is still a baby, these stories only go back about a year. Her memories are contained, of course, in “cumulous thought balloons.” Narration is provided by her internal voice.
This weekend the National Cartoonists Society is having its Reuben Awards celebration in Portland, Oregon. In April 1963, Dik Browne was presented with the Reuben as “outstanding cartoonist of the year” for his work on Hi and Lois in 1962. He also won the prestigious Silver Lady award from the Banshees Society in New York.
Here is a drawing Dik did at the time to show his appreciation for this recognition.
These were peak years in the long history of Hi and Lois.
Stay tooned for the next installment in our Timeline series.
