Photos From Two Chalk Talks!

by John Rose

Drawing Snuffy’s dog, Ol’ Bullet for the crowd in Monterey.

I really enjoy getting to speak to groups about the Snuffy Smith comic strip.  Recently I was asked to give Snuffy Smith Chalk Talks in Covington, Virginia at the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library and then in Monterey, Virginia at the Highland County Regional Library. These two talks were about 10 days apart.  And both talks were in truly beautiful mountain communities in western Virginia.  I really had a fun time and, based on what people told me after the programs,  I know the audiences did, too.  If you think your library, school or community group would like to book me for a Snuffy Smith Chalk Talk, just email your request to me at kfs-cartoonists@hearst.com and put “Snuffy Smith Cartoonist” in the subject line. Here are some photos from the presentations:

Talking about the first book I ever had published. I was in fifth grade at the time and my elementary school published it.  It was about a crime-solving dog.

I signed some of my Snuffy Smith book collections after the program.

Having fun drawing Loweezy for the crowd.

Many thanks to Gavin Dressler and Tomi Herold for taking these photos!
