Feature Spotlight: Curtis

by Tea

Welcome to our Feature Spotlight!

If you’re looking for a new comic to love, or new to Comics Kingdom, you’re in luck! Every week, we’ll be spotlighting a different one of our many features– new and old– so you can get to know them all better.

This week, we’d like you to meet Curtis by Ray BIllingsley!

Curtis all began late one night, when Ray woke suddenly and grabbed his pen.  He hastily sketched a character– a little boy wearing a backward baseball cap– and went back to sleep.  When he woke, there was Curtis’ cheery face, waiting to greet him.

Curtis Wilkins is an 11-year-old boy growing up in the big city, where he lives with his parents and little brother, Barry. The Wilkins family are close-knit and caring, but that doesn’t stop them from ribbing each other:

Curtis is a kid with big dreams– ambitions that usually get in the way of humdrum stuff like schoolwork and chores.  He’s clever and bright and often thinks he can charm his way out of anything with his golden tongue:

He’s lucky he has people around him who love him, like his parents and teacher, Mrs. Nelson, who is named for one of Ray’s real-life schoolteachers.  He’s also got great friends, like Chutney, who doesn’t give up her own crush on Curtis in spite of his persistent pursuit of the ever-uninterested Michelle.

We love Curtis because of his boundless enthusiasm for life, his unassailable confidence, and his love for his family– even when they act as a thorn in his side.
