Christmas Shopping

How many shopping days until Christmas? Who is counting?

At this time of the year we explore all the traditional activities of the season in Hi and Lois – buying gifts, sending cards, selecting a tree, decorating the house, singing carols, cooking food, exchanging presents, celebrating the holiday and searching for inspiration.

Some of the shopping sequences involve shopping malls that require crowded scenes. In this page from 1998, Chance Browne added extra detail to establish the location, particularly in the drop panel on the top.

Criticizing the over-commercialization of the season is a familiar theme in comic strips. I felt that this comment about the “true meaning of Christmas” was poignant.
