Bodacious Congratulations, Mike Peters!
My wife, Karen and I were so honored to have been able to attend an exhibition honoring the great cartoonist, Mike Peters, who I first met when I was a college student at James Madison University in 1984 and he’s been a friend, an inspiration and a mentor to me ever since. Mike is a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for the Dayton Daily News and he creates the hugely popular Mother Goose and Grimm comic strip for King Features. For almost fifty years, his cartoons have amused, informed and entertained readers. The exhibition is titled “What A Hoot: A Mike Peters Retrospective” and it is at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum at Ohio State University through March 12, 2017. If you are able to attend, I would certainly encourage you to do so! Here are some photos from the wonderful weekend:
The afternoon started with a gallery tour where Mike and curator, Lucy Caswell, discussed his work.
After the gallery tour Mike Peters and Mike Luckovich (Editorial Cartoonist, The Atlanta Journal Constitution) entertained the audience with hilarious stories!
With my extremely talented friend, Mike, in the exhibit hall.
My lovely wife, Karen and I with Mike and a special piece of art I created for Mike featuring Snuffy Smith and Grimmy.
My good friend and editor, King Features General Manager of Syndication, Brendan Burford at a dinner in Mike’s honor after the gallery tour, program and reception.
Snuffy felt right at home when looking at this lunch menu for a restaurant near our hotel in Columbus, OH!
It was a beautiful Fall day on the campus of Ohio State University.
An early morning cinnamon roll with my friend, Jeff Stahler, the talented editorial cartoonist and creator of the Moderately Confused comic panel.
Bodacious congratulations again, Mike Peters (and Grimmy, too)!
