The First Week of School

The first few weeks of school can be exciting for students. I can recall the anticipation of finding out which of my friends were in my classes, sizing up my teachers and seeing if there were any new faces. Although there was always a possibility for unpleasant surprises, my feelings about the new school year were generally positive.

We have done gags in the strip about this subject on numerous occasions but the episode above is a nice overview of Chip’s first week. Lois is encouraged by his attitude but Hi is more realistic about how long it will last. Like most students, Chip will probably be complaining about homework and his teachers in another month or so.

We hope our readers, both parents and students, who are going through this experience will identify with this episode. My own kids have graduated from college, so I am no longer in this phase of life, but I can still look back nostalgically on the past. I will always remember the beginning of a new school year as a time filled with hope for the future.
