News Around the Kingdom: HeroesCon 2016!

Greetings Comics Royals!

 Several King Features cartoonists will be appearing at HeroesCon 2016 in Charlotte, North Carolina from Friday, June 17 through Sunday, June 20!  HeroesCon draws comics fans, exhibitors, and creators from around the country to the Charlotte Convention Center every year!  John Rose (“Barney Google and Snuffy Smith”), Marcus Hamilton (“Dennis the Menace” dailies), and June Brigman (“Mary Worth” Sundays) will be among the cartoonists in attendance in Artists Alley!  John will be in booth AA-719, Marcus will be in booth AA-720, and June will be in booth AA-716!  If you’re attending, stop by and say hi!

In other news…

 Tom Batiuk’s (“Funky Winkerbean”) book, “Roses in December” is a finalist in the Ohioana Book Awards (Fiction catergory) for 2016!  The Ohioana Book Awards, established in 1942, honor Ohio authors in Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Juvenile Literature, and Middle Grade/Young Adult Literature!  This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Ohioana Awards!

 Patrick McDonnell’s (“Mutts”) book, “Thank You and Good Night”, has made the 2016 Children’s Choices List issued by the Cooperative Children’s Book Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison!

 Brian Walker (“Hi and Lois”) takes a look at the outlandish, funny characters, Abercrombie and Fitch, who collect the Flagstons’ garbage!

Alex Hallatt (“Arctic Circle”) recently did her first cartoon workshop for kids in Basque, country, Spain!  She talked to them about the book she’s illustrating, “Friends Against Bullying Club”, the comics she draws for a kids’ science magazine, and “Arctic Circle”!  She had fun, and the kids learned a bit about English and a LOT about how to draw penguins!
