Patrick McDonnell (“Mutts”) will appear in “Shelter Me:  Hearts and Paws” (Episode 6) on PBS in May!  He was filmed during his time at NYC”s only public, open-admissions animal shelter, Animal Care Centers of NYC!  The experience was turned into a week-long series of “Mutts” strips (“Shelter Stories”) last month!

Barney Google and Spark Plug!

Sparky Schulz was nick-named after Barney Google’s race horse

John Rose (“Barney Google & Snuffy Smith”) tells us how the iconic comic strip “Peanuts” influenced his own work!  He also shares this interesting fact:  “Peanuts” cartoonist Charles Schulz was given the nickname “Sparky” after the racehorse character Spark Plug in “Barney Google & Snuffy Smith”!
