I’ve had a busy and exciting week speaking to students of all ages about cartooning!  I was invited to speak at Culpeper Christian School by my niece and nephew, Emma and Alex Rose, who both attend the school.  I did a Snuffy Smith Chalk Talk for the whole school (grades Pre-K through 8) in the morning.  Then, later in the day, I worked with the gifted art students teaching them how to draw political caricatures and also how to create the characters in the Snuffy Smith comic strip.  What a talented group of young artists!  You can read all about my visit to Culpeper in The Star-Exponent newspaper (a Snuffy Smith comic strip subscriber) here.

Also, this week I was honored to present a lecture on my work as an editorial cartoonist for the Daily News-Record/Byrd Newspapers of Virginia.  I spoke to the Honors Academy at Radford University in Radford, Virginia.  My talk was part of a unit on the philosophy of humor.  Many thanks to Guy Axtell, an associate professor in the Radford Philosophy Department for inviting me to be a part of his class!

It’s been a fun week here in Hootin’ Holler meeting and talking with students of all ages!
