The Charming-Yet-Infrequent-Newsletter, Fall 2015

by Hilary Price

Big things are happening November 14th and 15th:

It’s my annual Open Studio Event!  50 artists in my building open their doors and folks can see their studios and do some non-big-box shopping.  I’ll be there 10am-5pm, both days. This year’s Open Studio special is Catacomics–a collection of Rhymes With Orange cat cartoons in a fun comic book.Catacomicscover

ALSO on that Nov 15th Sunday, there’s a decent chance I’ll be on the CBS Sunday Morning Show with correspondent Rita Braver.  9 am EST.

See if you can spot the big pink bike helmet hickey I’m sporting on my forehead. (They did their best to cover it with powder.)

Why all the hubbub?  Because on that same Sunday, King Features Syndicate (my syndicate) is celebrating their 100th ANNIVERSARY and they’re doing a big extra Sunday Comics insert in newspapers.  Here’s a sneak peak:

King also did this neat cake, which sort of reminds me of the movie Alien:

That’s my toon in frosting.

King also just put out a collection. ( I’ve got a few in there.)

But King Features isn’t the only king of comics having a big celebration.  It’s also the 65th anniversary of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts.  And now out is the Peanuts Tribute Book.  Here’s the cover:

And here’s my piece in it, about the time my ex and I met Charles “Sparky” Schulz.

Btw, here’s what the real Paige Braddock looks like.  She’s drawing her Jane’s World character, like the one on Marcy’s shirt:

Art-O-Rama

It’s been a fall full of cartoon art:

There was the Roz Chast exhibit at The Norman Rockwell Museum:

And then there was the art at New Yorker cartoonist Harry Bliss’ house.  He’s great!  Here’s one of Harry’s toons:

And here’s one he collected.  Dad, this reminds me of you.

Just last week I went to the Edward Gorey House on Cape Cod:

The museum had his characters made into rubber stamps, and encouraged patrons to play with them. What wholesome fun!

Thanks for tuning in!  Hope to see you November 14th and 15th at my studio!
