I am a member of the Southeast Chapter of the National Cartoonists Society. Each year, generally in the Fall, we have a meeting in a selected city in the southeastern United States. This past weekend we had our meeting in Greenville, SC. Here are a few photos of the annual meeting: Our leader, James "Doodle" Lyle (Comic Books), kicks off the meeting Saturday morning. A meeting of cartoonists in the south comes complete with Moon Pies for all! Doodle presents the Meglin Award for volunteerism to Greg Cravens (The Buckets, Hubris). Snuffy Smith meets Mark Trail! I met King Features' Mark Trail cartoonist, James Allen, for the first time at this event. James is a very talented guy! He does a super job on Mark Trail! The wonderful greeting card cartoonist, Barbara Dale, of Dale Cards, was our guest speaker and winner of the Jack Davis Award. Barbara is a very funny lady! Her talk was hilarious! Editorial Cartoonist and Children's Book Author/Illustrator Kate Salley Palmer addresses the crowd. Kate's children's book, A Gracious Plenty, was one of our daughters' favorites when they were growing up. I enjoyed reading it to them night after night! A very informative panel discussion on Women In The Comics featuring (from left): June Brigman (Brenda Starr, Comic Books); Stephanie Gladden-Miller (Cartoon Network, Comic Books); Moderator Qiana Whitted (Professor, U.S.C.); Barbara Dale, Kate Salley Palmer. Cartoonists Greg Cravens, Andy Smith (Comic Books) and Bill Holbrook (On The Fastrack, Safe Havens, Kevin and Kell). It was an informative weekend filled with lots of food, fun and merriment, too! Bodacious thanks to all who made it happen!
