My wife Abby and I are real dog lovers. A number of years ago, I gave her tickets to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden as a Christmas present, which inspired this Hi and Lois Sunday page.

Our dog at the time was Jezebel, a soft-coated wheaten terrier who was rescued from a shelter in New York when she was three years old. Jezebel was not very well disciplined. The only rules we managed to enforce were no begging for food at the table and no jumping into our bed.
Of course, she often violated these rules. This is my favorite picture of Jezebel sleeping with my son David and Abby at our cottage in Maine. The look on her face is priceless.
Sadly, Jezebel passed away on January 11, 2012. I still miss her, but her spirit lives on in the Flagston’s clumsy sheepdog who has been in the strip since 1954. Next to sunbeam, Dawg is Trixie’s best friend.
