Staycations

A “staycation” is defined as “a vacation that is spent at one’s home enjoying all that home and one’s home environs have to offer.” This term was popularized after the economic crisis of 2008 when fuel prices were at a record high. Families couldn’t afford to go on long road trips or expensive vacations abroad.

Among the getaway options for summer staycations are excursions to local sites like museums, parks, zoos, aquariums and libraries, participating in activities including, bowling, camping, swimming and fishing, attending sporting events such as baseball games, golf tournaments and bike races, or going out to dinner and a movie. Backyard fun like barbecues, yard games and soaking in a pool are among the many ways to keep kids entertained without getting in the car.
