Snuffy Smith Fan Art!!

By Jeremy Meltingtallow

I love getting art from fans of the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith comic strip! I usually receive this art in the mail or, oftentimes, the art is given to me after I’ve done a Snuffy Smith Chalk Talk at a school or public library. Here are three great pieces of fan art I’ve gotten lately…

Our daughter is a fourth grade teacher. I gave a children's cartooning Our daughter is a fourth grade teacher and I recently gave a children’s cartooning workshop for the gifted and talented art students in her elementary school.  Our daughter said that one of her students, a fourth grader named Sam Evans, loved the workshop so much that she was teaching her fellow classmates how to draw the Snuffy Smith characters the next day in class!  This is one of Sam’s drawings of Snuffy.  Wonderful work!

This piece of art was created by Snuffy fan, Charles Adams, who drew Barney Google and Snuffy Smith with two characters he created, Ritchie and Patty. Great job. Charles! This image was drawn by young artist This art was drawn by a young cartoonist named Kash Krieman.  He was inspired to draw this after seeing a Sunday comic strip I drew in which Ol’ Bullet got a new dog bed, but Snuffy liked the bed better than Ol’ Bullet did!  Fantastic work, Kash!

Bodacious thanks to these talented young people for being inspired to draw the Snuffy Smith characters and for sharing their art with me!  When I see great art like this, it makes me feel like the future of cartooning is bright!
