News Around the Kingdom: Sherman’s Lagoon in Times Square

by The King

Greetings Comics Royals!

For the past month, Jim Toomey’s popular “Sherman’s Lagoon” comic strip has been running on two of the famed Jumbotrons in Times Square.  This weekend marks the end of this fabulous promotion, which features an animated message created by Toomey urging consumers to select seafood items that are fished or farmed in ways that have less impact on the environment. The award-winning cartoonist was approached by the Baltimore-based Campbell Foundation for the Environment to produce a PSA on ocean conservation. He created the animated spot featuring lovable Sherman the Great White Shark and his sea critter pal, Hawthorne the Hermit Crab, to highlight the need for consumption of sustainable seafood.

The 30-second PSAs are running on the “Bowtie Screen” at 1500 Broadway Ave. and 43rd St. (29’ x 56’), and the “Super Screen” at 42nd St. between 7th and 8th Aves. (26’ x 20’). Comics Kingdom Royals can watch the PSA here.
