Ask a Cartoonist: Halloween Costumes!

by The King

Friday is Halloween – a fun holiday for adults and kids alike!

To celebrate, this week we asked our cartoonists:

What is your favorite Halloween costume you or one of your characters has done?

See their answers below!

“I guess my favorite Halloween costume is when a Zippy fan dresses up as Zippy and sends me a photo—second best is a Zippy Halloween pumpkin!” — Bill Griffith, Zippy the Pinhead
“Here is Sally Forth’s cosplay for Halloween week 2013! And a quick heads up that the Sally Forth strips for Halloween week 2014 (10/27-11/1) will feature a whole new batch with Ted, Hil, Faye and Nona joining in on the fun!” — Jim Keefe, Sally Forth
“I recently sketched Gwen in my sketchbook dressing up as Velma for Halloween!” — David Reddick, Intelligent Life

“I thought this turnaround Dennis/Mr. Wilson Halloween costume shocker would be apropos.” — Ron Ferdinand, Dennis the Menace
“This Halloween, Dethany is finally able to get Fi to participate in the holiday.” — Bill Holbrook, On The Fastrack and Safe Havens
“One Halloween, many years ago, my wife, our two daughters and I went as Snuffy, Loweezy, Lukey and Elviney.  It was a real hoot an’ a holler!  This old photo shows from left: Me as Lukey, younger daughter Sarah as Snuffy, older daughter Meredith as Loweezy and my wife Karen as Elviney.  It was a memorable, bodaciously fun Halloween night!” — John Rose, Barney Google and Snuffy Smith
— Kieran Meehan, Pros & Cons
“Here is an image from my strip, when Dag snuck out for Halloween dressed as a Thrift Shop donation box!” — Kevin Frank, Heaven’s Love Thrift Shop

“This is myself and my husband on Halloween, 2010. These may not be our best costumes ever, but the impressive part is we put ‘em together in about 15 minutes. The common smart-aleck question was, ‘So where are your costumes?'” — Terri Libenson, The Pajama Diaries

“Here’s one of my favourite Halloween costumes I’ve done…the zombie canoeist! A big hit at the party but not popular on the dance floor.” — Jonathan Mahood, Bleeker the Rechargeable Dog

“I think readers will agree– any costume Monica puts on is scary enough!” — Rina Piccolo, Tina’s Groove and Six Chix

“I once dressed up as a giant ipod, with a scary tune playlist, but the penguins already look peculiar and don’t usually dress up.” — Alex Hallatt, Arctic Circle

Thanks so much for sharing, Cartoonists! Happy Halloween, everyone!
