This is a business deduction…honest.
Next week I’m headed to San Diego for the annual National Cartoonist Society’s Reuben Awards Weekend. This year, I’m honoured to be one of the presenters…which is why I’ve been caricatured by the incomparably talented Tom Richmond of Mad Magazine fame. I’m the one in the boat seated between Maeve and Susan. I’ve never looked so good. I’m scheduled for some hair colour and a pedicure in a vain attempt to live up to Tom’s interpretation. I’m hoping he’ll use his talents to do my make-up before my talk.
The Reuben Awards weekend is an annual event for members of the National Cartoonist Society. In addition to the Awards ceremony, there are cocktail parties and seminars and other special events/excursions related to the host city. It’s really just a great big party that gives cartoonists from all walks a chance to get together in person, talk shop and have fun.
My talk is centered around the anniversary of my twenty years in syndication. I’ve been tweaking the “final” version of my presentation for the past two weeks. I think it’s time to just put it to rest. I could tweak until I retire.
I can’t wait to go…it’s always such a great weekend! I’ll post some highlights of my talk when I get back.
(Oh…and see in the top left corner? That’s special guest, Weird Al Yankovic!)
