Participatory sports are a good source for Hi and Lois gags and we have done strips about all of the major ones, including football, baseball, basketball, golf and bowling. One athletic activity that has the potential to include all of the family members, except baby Trixie, is skiing.
We try to send the Flagstons off to the mountains every year during January or February. This gives them a chance to get out of the house and breathe some fresh air.
This page from 2001 shows the family packing the car for their annual trip. The sport not only requires special equipment and clothing but also money to pay for lodging, meals, lift tickets and rentals.

The following Sunday we featured an episode that showed the family up on the slopes. This gave Chance an opportunity to do some snow-covered mountain peaks in the backgrounds as well as action scenes. Drawing skis, boots and poles is challenging because they have to look realistic without buckles and bindings, which would add extraneous details.

We hope that some of our readers are taking advantage of this three-day weekend to do some skiing. Feel free to share your stories here.
