‘Tis the Season

by Brian Walker, Greg Walker and Chance Browne

Christmas is a great time of the year for family fun in Hi and Lois.  There are numerous activities – shopping, decorating, wrapping, cooking, caroling and celebrating – that are ideal sources for gag material.  In the next few weeks, we will be sharing some classic Hi and Lois holiday-themed episodes here.

The Christmas season officially begins after Thanksgiving.  Although we have shown family members shopping in late November, we have never done a strip that specifically mentions Black Friday, which is a relatively recent phenomenon.  Here is a Sunday page from 2000 in which Hi offers a solution to help Lois avoid the stress of the season.

It is not easy to draw the interior of a shopping mall but Chance always rises to the challenge.  One of the added bonuses of his crowd scenes are the background characters, many of which have unique features and personalities.

Trixie often serves as a passive observer in the Flagston household.  In this Sunday page from 2007, she watches and tries to help as the family prepares for the holiday season. It’s all new to her.

We know it’s a busy time of the year for most of our readers, but hopefully some of you can find the time to check back here in the coming weeks for more festive scenes from the history of Hi and Lois.

Update – The launch of the new web site, ComicsKingdom.com, was delayed a few days. It should be going live on Monday, December 9.
