Bizarro is brought to you today by Dignified Americans.
This is one of those cartoons that I wasn’t sure they’d let me get away with. Americans can be incredibly sensitive to language issues and so editors often won’t print cartoons that have certain kinds of words, ones that may refer to sexual acts are an especially huge red flag. But this one sailed through without a hitch (although I sometimes find out later that a given newspaper somewhere did not run a gag like this and substituted an old one in its place.) We’ll see.
DEJA VIEW: I wanted to find this cartoon from 1989 to post in the archive section yesterday, with the “Super Head Ball” cartoon because of the obvious similarity but I couldn’t find it in my archives. But one of my precious Jazz Pickles mentioned it in a comment and told me I could find it on page 5 of one of my early books, “Sumo Bizarro”. I found it, scanned it, and here it is. I lived in Texas at the time I wrote this and was in the habit of going to the Texas State Fair every year with friends, even though I found it to be a fairly grotesque display of humanity. (I once saw a typical Texas redneck shoving midway food into his mouth with both hands while sporting one of those huge turkey legs sticking out of the back pocket of his jeans. No wrapping, just shoved bare-naked into his pocket. Good lord, people. Have some dignity.
