Dozing Dummy

by Wayno & Piraro

bz panel 08-22-13bz strip 08-22-13Bizarro is brought to you today by the Dangers of Reproduction.

Today’s gag is a collaboration with my known associate, Wayno of Pittsburgh. Both Wayno and I have long been big fans of ventriloquist gags; there’s just something too delicious about having one’s hand up the backside of a look-alike puppet to ignore.

Ventriloquism is a pretty ancient art form, apparently, and as creepy as it can be now, it was even moreso back in the day, as is evidenced in numerous photos from yesteryear.

For more fun on this topic, and an example of Wayno’s own tremendous illustration skills, check out his blog post about this cartoon.

ReBizarros: This cartoon from 2010 is one of my favorite ventriloquist gags of the scores I’ve done. It conjures a surreal scene in which not only has the ventriloquist inexplicably lost a finger inside the dummy which ended up in his throat, but the dummy remains awake and conscious after the ventriloquist has passed out. I wrote this cartoon because this actually happened to me at a party when I was in college. I discovered the next day that the “dummy” was a friend of mine, the “finger” was a Cheetoh, and someone had spiked my drink. Ah, the good old days.
