Someone wrote to ask if the Irish getup had anything to do with this smartphone gag. It doesn’t. It’s just that I needed an idiot to be left for a smarter owner by his smartphone and the cartoon was part of a batch scheduled to run during the week of St. Patrick’s Day, so I combined the two. This is not to say that all people who dress up for St. Pat’s are idiots (though who am I to say they are not?) but rather that there are plenty of idiots running around any given American city on St. Patrick’s Day, drinking excessively and wearing too much green.

Who does Mr. Peanut date? I’ve never seen a Ms. Peanut. Is he into inter-species dating? Has he ever hit on the Chiquita Banana girl? My buddy, Wayno, drew a sketch of this scenario without a punchline in mind, then we put our heads together and came up with this. One other alternative came to my mind but it was too racy for newspapers. I posted it in the comments section of Wayno’s caption contest for this image on his blog. See it here.

Everyone getting excited about the NHL playoffs? Of course you are. Only a week or so left to the regular season. Will the Devils sneak in? Will the Western Conference dominate again? Will all of the players look like fat guys in their hockey uniforms?

Just for fun, let’s all buy T-shirts with these cartoons on them and wear them on the same day! Irish Smartphone… Mr. Peanut
