The original creators of Hi and Lois, Mort Walker and Dik Browne, both lived for many years in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Chance, Greg and I also call this area home. These towns are all within driving distance of the beaches on Long Island Sound. This is the location that inspired the fictional setting for the strip.

Every summer, the Flagston family usually makes at least one trip to the beach. We like to get them out of the house and show them in a different environment.

Dot and Ditto's favorite beach activity is building sand castles. In the Sunday page above, from 2006, they've made something bigger and better than ever before.

In the strip below, from 2011, they go for a more contemporary spin on their latest creation.

We will be celebrating the summer in upcoming posts, so be sure to stay tooned.
