The final episodes of the 1954 furlough sequence revolve around Ma and Pa Bailey's increasingly active social life. Beetle stays home with Hi and Lois and their baby while the grandparents go bowling.
At his point, Mort Walker had decided to send Beetle back to Camp Swampy. His readers demanded it.
In the final strip, Beetle says goodbye to his sister and her family and slams the door as he leaves.
The next day, he was listening to a safety lecture at Camp Swampy with Captain Scabbard, Sarge and his buddies. The rest is history.
This is the first time the entire 1954 furlough sequence has been seen since its original publication.
