Ask A Cartoonist: Holiday Greetings!

It’s the holiday season– and even though our Hanukkah latkes are but a memory, we’ve got Yule, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and New Year’s on the horizon.  This week, our cartoonists share their holiday wishes with all of you!

Back when we first launched Dustin in 2010, my 88-year-old Mom made these nifty Dustin felt ornaments for our Christmas tree. Megan, Helen, Dustin, and Ed have been reserved the best spots on our tinseled tannenbaum ever since. Happy Holidays to all from Team Dustin!

  

Wayno, Bizarro:

Before I became Bizarro’s daily cartoonist, I assisted Dan as colorist for three years and for 10 years, wrote tons of gags. I don’t think I’ll ever top this Christmas Eve cartoon, but I’ll keep trying.

In the mid-1960s, at the peak of the “Happiness is …” craze, my father, Mort Walker, produced a 20-page booklet with original cartoons on the theme of, “A Merry Christmas is…” Here are the opening pages of that holiday greeting card.

 

In 2011, I decided to revisit this idea in a Hi and Lois Sunday page. Chance referenced the original Walker Christmas card for the design and did a great job with the calligraphy.

Here is my Holiday card for the year (which I delayed sending by snail mail to the point of making it useless) but the title is “Angry Bird,” and as you can see, the little cardinal is upset that his habitat is being diminished. Perhaps it is just as well that I am sending this to you digitally instead of using paper.
