Tomorrow is the first day of Summer!
Plenty of our cartoonists have fun summer plans. Here are a few:
Isabella Bannerman, Six Chix:
Yes, the group show I’m in has just been extended into August, but even at the original take down date of July 31, I guess it qualifies as a summer event. The theme of the show is reading and libraries. Here is the invitation, and one of the drawings
Bill Griffith, Zippy the Pinhead:
I’ll be spending most of the Summer finalizing my new graphic biography for Abrams ComicArts (“Nobody’s Fool: The Life & Times of Schlitzie the Pinhead”).
Getting the “package” right is always a time-consuming part of doing any book, especially when you’re a nitpicker like me. I’ll just send Zippy to the beach and let him have Summer fun for me.
Jim Keefe, Sally Forth and Flash Gordon:
A little tease for this summer’s upcoming Sally Forth storyline.
Ron Ferdinand, Dennis the Menace:
Although I personally spend July and August desperately waiting for September (and Fall) to arrive, I can still appreciate the humor that can be mined from THE LONG HOT SUMMER. Here’s two Ketcham Klassics.
Bill Holbrook, Kevin & Kell, On the Fastrack, and Safe Havens:
On their way to Mars, the “Safe Havens” children get a rude awakening in regard to summer vacation.
Meanwhile, I’ll be attending Anthrocon on July 6-8, in Pittsburgh PA. I’ll have all of my new “Fastrack,” “Safe Havens” and “Kevin & Kell” book collections.
John Rose, Barney Google and Snuffy Smith:
This summer our family is planning a family wedding (unlike Lureen and Hector!). Our oldest daughter is getting married in late July and wedding-planning will consume most our summer until that point. We are excited for her and her fiance and wish them nothing but the very best in their life together!
