Sometimes, it’s easy to let the doldrums close in on you, and to focus on the negative. One of the great things about comics is that the can provide a little bit of a pick-me-up even on an otherwise gray day. Today is National Day of Hope, so I’ve asked our cartoonists what they’re hopeful for, or what makes them hopeful. Here are their responses.
Bill Griffith, Zippy the Pinhead:
For some reason, when you type “hope” into the Zippy Archive search box (zippythepinhead.com), this strip comes up.
I must have thought hope was the theme when I put in the keywords, albeit reached in a typically Zippian roundabout way. After all, what could be more hopeful than listening to a cranky cartoonist and a muu-muu-clad pinhead discuss the deeper meaning of…donuts?
Ron Ferdinand, Dennis the Menace:
‘Hope Reigns Supreme’ in the heart of Dennis Mitchell! ESPECIALLY when he’s fishing with his dad.
Gary Brookins, Shoe:
The cast of “Shoe” regularly express “hope” for one thing or another. It is my hope that our cartoon brings smiles, chuckles and LOLs to our readers each day.
Isabella Bannerman, Six Chix:
Doing yoga makes me feel hopeful about things in general. And like the teacher pictured here, I feel hopeful about the possibility of impeachment.
Bill Holbrook, Kevin & Kell, On the Fastrack, and Safe Havens:
When Fi attempted to run off on her wedding day, Dethany tried to give her hope for the future.
Alex Hallatt, Arctic Circle:
I’m hoping that we get council approval to rebuild the back of our house that was damaged in a landslip last winter. I’m hoping that this happens before this winter. Which is soon.
John Rose, Barney Google and Snuffy Smith:
Hoping for a proposal in Hootin’ Holler!
