In other news…
In Part 4 of his BEETLE BAILEY 1971 Timeline series, Brian Walker looks back at a Sunday page in which Sarge, doubling as sports coach, has to give his team a pep talk before the game. The episode was inspired by the famous “win one for the Gipper” speech. To see how it all unfolded, click here.
Meanwhile, over in HI AND LOIS in his Timeline series, Brian takes an in-depth look at the masterly blend of story structure and graphic design of a 1971 Sunday page. The page is a perfect example of the collaboration between Mort Walker and Dik Browne, one of the legendary partnerships in the history of comics. Check it out.
Last but not least, BIZARRO cartoonist Dan Piraro advises his fans about a landmark in his life and, as always, shares the background for some of his favorite cartoons. And, of course, he can’t quite get away from politics… Check out his always provocative and fun-to-read blog.
