Hello, Royal Readers,
This week, stories about how to roast a turkey and avoid kitchen fires, the best sides and keeping the family at peace at the Thanksgiving table have been ubiquitous in the news. But another story much closer to home here at Comics Kingdom has made the news. Did you know that 34 King Features cartoonists joined more than 125 other in the larger cartooning community to support the National Cartoonists Society and National Cartoonists Society Foundation initiative to raise funds for disaster relief?
That’s right. Recognizing the ongoing need to support victims of the recent natural disasters, including major hurricanes and wildfires, the NCS and NCS Foundation have partnered with Heritage Auctions and have invited the entire cartooning community – syndicated and non-syndicated artists alike – to donate their original comics from Thanksgiving Day to the online auction. They have asked those cartoonists who now work only digitally either to return to pen and ink for the occasion or to raid their archives for a suitable piece of art to donate. The fundraiser will run for one week from Nov. 23 at www.HA.com/NCS.
MUTTS cartoonist Patrick McDonnell is quoted in a story by Michael Cavna that ran in The Washington Post. The story also featured the Thanksgiving Day comic strip from MOTHER GOOSE & GRIMM cartoonist Mike Peters. Check it out here:
Another story ran on Parade.com which featured the Thanksgiving artwork donated by DUSTIN cartoonists Steve Kelley and Jeff Parker and PROS & CONS cartoonist Kieran Meehan. Check it out here:
We wish all of you the Happiest of Thanksgivings and, if you are able to give, we invite you to place your bid at the auction. All proceeds from the auction will be sent to Direct Relief, a charity that specializes in providing humanitarian aid to victims of natural disasters.
Thanks for catching up on this week’s News Around the Kingdom.
Have a great week, and see you again next Friday!
