INTELLIGENT LIFE cartoonist David Reddick begins a new series on Monday. You MUST check it out. It tackles a very unusual subject, combining great character development in a short space of time with social commentary. He gives a hint in his sketchbook, but that’s all we’ll say. This week, our timing is a little off. You have to check out in Part 4 of Brian Walker’s BEETLE BAILEY 1969 Timeline series. Then check out today’s post in which he introduces 1970 by shining a light on a recurring theme in the strip: authority vs. resistance to it. In this strip featuring Zero and Beetle, however, the classic dynamic of Sarge imposing his authority and Beetle resisting it is turned on its head. Don’t miss this one!

After you finish checking out Part 4 from the 1969 Timeline of HI AND LOIS, take a look at the one Brian posted today from 1970 He shares some insights into the culture — where it was AT — as depicted in this wonderful Hi and Lois Sunday page. Of course, Brian wasn’t exactly a hippee and so some of what was “happening” during his teenage years and being translated into the comic didn’t exactly fit. But it sure is fun to see today!
Check it out in Brian’s always fascinating blog.
