Ask A Cartoonist: Happy Earth Day!

As we all know, yesterday was Earth Day, one of our favorite days here at King Features.  So, of course, today, I've asked our cartoonists to fill us in on what they (and their characters) do to celebrate Earth Day and to celebrate the Earth year-round!

Plastic litter that would wash into storm drains and the ocean really bugs me and I try to pick up more of it on Earth Day. --Alex Hallatt, Arctic Circle

Of course Dennis celebrates Earth Day…Dennis and “earth” are inseparable.  --Marcus Hamilton, Dennis the Menace

--Bud Grace,  Piranha Club

I always try to mark the date with an environmental theme in my strips, and this year it involved Samantha in "Safe Havens" traveling to the merfolk capitol.  --Bill Holbrook, On the Fastrack and Safe Havens

--Bill Griffith, Zippy the Pinhead

I recycle EVERYTHING. Well, at least that's my goal.My biggest gripe is all the people who dump their garbage in our beautiful woods.WHY??  I always hope we can make a difference. Or at least make a joke!  --Margaret Shulock, Apartment 3-G and Six Chix

My characters and I do our best to recycle and compost to reduce our carbon footprint!  Here is a recent cartoon about all those little plastic bottles that you find in hotel rooms.  --Isabella Bannerman, Six Chix

I usually do strips celebrating Earth Day each year because, as one of my favorite strips from years past says, "Hillbillies wuz green b'fore green was cool!" --John Rose, Barney Google and Snuffy Smith

I created a week of Earth Day strips back in 2010. This one was one of my favorites-- John Hambrock, The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee

--Karen Moy and Joe Giella, Mary Worth

Here in NH, we recycle, and compost and have a huge organic garden as some of our contributions to making our bit of earth a better place!  --Stephanie Piro, Six Chix
