Ask the Archivist: December 7, 1941
Today marks the 70th anniversary of one of the darkest days in our history: the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor — the day the United States entered the Second World War.
That Sunday found most Americans following their typical pursuits of going to church, doing some Christmas shopping, or maybe staying in to do household chores or listening to a radio football game.
A part of every Sunday was reading the newspaper comics section. Here are a few of the Hearst offerings on that last morning of tranquility.
Let’s take this time to remember those brave souls who died that day and those who fought and won a terrible war so many of us could enjoy our Sunday comics in peace.”
